The Crisis Of The American Intellectual
This article by Walter Russell Mead forms the basis of an extended (and link-rich) post at ChicagoBoyz.
Please read both, along with the links, and consider this distinct possibility:
The ruling class is both intellectually shallow and non-adaptive.
What does that say about their ability to prevail in a non-linear, non-rules-based, ad hoc conflict environment?

I think of the scene in the movie "The Razor's Edge," in which jaded society boy Bill Murray goes into seclusion on a snowy mountaintop with trunks full of Great Books to try to synthesize out of all those contradictory voices the true essence of the meaning of life and existence.
He eventually understands. When he runs out of food and has to set fire to the books to keep from freezing to death.
People don't argue about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin when there ARE no pins to be had.
The lack of flexibility will mean that they'll authorize wholesale slaughter of regions of the country, and of groups if they can find them, in order to either assert control or to make examples, or both.
Remember the, "we had to destroy the village in order to save it" idea?
We will prevail, and the most organized 4th Gen Warriors will survive best.
The progressive/fascist intelligentsia must be made to understand that if they do authorize the use of force not only will they not be safe, but their children, aunts, uncles, parents, and grandparents won't be safe either. In essence, they need to know that their DNA will vanish.
Yes, they ARE shallow and unadaptive. But they have no concern about their ability to prevail in "a non-linear, non-rules-based, ad hoc conflict environment". After all, they have their Enablers. And the Enablers lips are firmly attached to the Intellectual teabags no matter what they spout. Oath be damned!
Might as well plan on aerial spraying of nasty stuff to combat "disease" outbreaks in non-submissive parts of the countryside.
Remember the, "we had to destroy the village in order to save it" idea?
Or:
We had to burn the compound to save the children from Koresh.

Anon 8:40, that reminds me. The news the other night raised the question: Should unvaccinated children be allowed in public schools?
Think about it. Take the needle or flunk out. They're risking no one's health but their own, since inoculated kids won't catch the flu from THEM. So why?
Because letting you decide the least little thing for yourself or your family leads to more questions. Because your child getting sick leads to missed days from work for YOU and "affects interstate commerce." (Actually, every day a child misses means less federal funds for the school. That's why they care so much about attendance. You didn't think it was out of concern for your child's thorough education, did you?)
And finally, just Because.
