Independence Day

Go read these two entries at Sipsey Street:

Citizens, Not Subjects

Declaration of the Causes and Necessity of Taking Up Arms

After you read the Declaration aloud today (you were planning to do so, right?), read also this quote from Winston Churchill:

Still, if you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than live as slaves.

Think hard this day on the burdens you will be asked to shoulder in the coming months and years.

Think as well about the consequences of your decision.

Alea iacta est.

We have counted the cost of this contest and find nothing more terrifying than voluntary slavery.

Amen,
It is better to die a Freeman than a Slave.
We all will die no matter what, that day comes. Therefore it is how one lives their life that we will be judged by.
