Dinner With The Militia
I like to ask one question and make one observation when the "M word" comes up:
1) What is this 'militia' thing about which you are so adamant that you are not? Please describe it in detail, given that you are training with your personal firearms to dispatch human predators at ranges from arm's-length to several hundred yards, along with the moving and communication skills needed to do those tasks effectively.
2) The people I know are engineers, accountants, homeschooling parents, housewives, lawyers, doctors, schoolteachers, truck drivers, students, retired folks, IT professionals, machinists, gun dealers, pastors, bankers, and every other walk of life. They may not use the "M word", but they sure as shooting are the militia, as the Founders understood that term.

Exactly right. Militia is not a dirty word. If you think it is, the fed has done its work well.
The army of the Roman Republic was a citizen's militia until the "reforms" of Marius, as were the hoplites of each of the cities of Greece before them. The West and the militia are intertwined forever. Remove one and the other cannot survive.
Organized Militia: State Military Departments (non-Federalizeable). Most people don't know such a thing exists. FedSpeak: No Comment.
Unorganized Militia: The whole of the people, esp. males 18-45 years. Most effective when self-equipped & skilled ("regulated", in 18th century lingo) according to published standards. FedSpeak: terrorists.
Disorganized Militia: Can be pulled from couch for some useful activities. Upgradeable to "unorganized" in many cases. FedSpeak: Dangerous Collaborators with terrorists.
The Federal Media has done its' job very well when most people would say that Fed-controlled National Guard is the legitimate Militia.
Cheers.
The NRA said in the '90s that no member would ever be a member of a militia, instead of using their vast resources to educate the people that the People ARE the militia as envisioned by the Founders. There's a literal ream of correspondence about it between members of the Continental Congress.
The NRA also did not oppose the federal DISCLOSE Act because they were specifically exempted from having to report THEIR member lists and contributors. Everyone else could get data-raped.
Well...
New Jersey has proposed its own brand of DISCLOSE law, and the NRA is in the crosshairs.
