Gov. Perdue of North Carolina is denying that the no-guns-in-public provision of the law on states of emergency -- invoked due to Hurricane Earl -- infringes on the rights of NC residents. Grassroots North Carolina counsel says NC law says a governor cannot suspend PART of the emergency law, and indeed Perdue never mentioned doing so. I wonder which interpretation the law enforcement community will decide to go with. NC residents are writing Perdue asking for a signed document to present to LEOs if they're arrested...
J. Croft, I guess they don't do psych profiles for police officer candidates anymore. Or maybe they do, looking for a particular bent. The Marquis de Sade would be regarded as a dabbler if he were around today. Watching Sarah Weaver, Randy's daughter, on William Shatner's "Aftermath," I am learning that it was much worse than I ever knew, that the government agents were more sadistic, dishonest and more fake-remorseful, that the siege involved FOUR HUNDRED personnel in a paramilitary encampment. Any of us could be the next Weavers. Would my dozens of neighbors stand outside the yellow tape and watch for days? I would not simply watch if it were THEM.
Defender, I believe you just nailed basic human behavior right on the head. None of us should even begin to believe that your neighbors will come to help when everyone demonizes you for your beliefs. Anyone who does show up is part of a very small minority who still believes in basic principles and ethics. But the average human will stand around and watch, waiting for an OK from the media or masses before they jump in to help. We are pretty much a one man show these days. 0321
Oh yeah, Defender, I DID catch the Sara Weaver interview. I suppose she had to say that she forgave the feddies... if she didn't mean it. Even if she did, she's still far better on her worst day than they ever will be on their best.
And our "public servants" do look for the badge heavies and psychos to enforce the laws, bring in the fines, slave labor. They're more motivated.

When it gets down to deeds, he won't have to worry about people standing around talking about it. Me? I've seen the critter. Ain't no thang.

There is a law pertaining to human behavior that reads something like this:
People will not change until the pain of staying the same is worse than the pain of changing.
This applies to all people, regardless of their position, status, or whatever kind of fancy or plain hat they may wear.
