Can anyone recognize that 40mm the guy on the right has? I don't believe I've ever seen one of those.

abstemio, that thar is one of them expensive hk 69a1 type grenade launchers. too expensive for me anyway. the article from captain lewis is good for my small unit training. we have been reading about the time russia went in to afghanistan and the small unit hit and run operations. skills that could be used in a variety of environments.

the short version: these books are meant to be read as a pair. stories of the same battles as told by each side. most after action reviews are only two or three pages, with maps. it's really tedious reading with all the detail, but if you're interested in small group operations such as raids, ambushes, and attacks, this is all the better you could want. we could soon be doing the same things as either the russians or the mujahideen did during that war. and some of those things can be practiced now.
