Restore the Constitution -- Open-Carry Rally Near DC -- 4/19/10

This open-carry civil rights rally, planned in conjunction with this coming April's freedom marches, is still in the development phases, but you can keep up with the latest by bookmarking this site:

Restore The Constitution

Further information here:

RTC Mission Statement/FAQ

RTC Target Audience/Success Criteria

For the link-leery, here's the core concept:

Scope:
4-19-10 rally at Gravelly Point Park, Virginia 8AM to dark. Gravelly Point is only the tentative location at this point, as we are still assessing whether it is in fact the closest carry-legal location to DC where we can hold a rally. Currently, the permit for the rally is pending. See home blog page for latest updates.

Target Audience:
Unlike traditional protest rallies, the primary target audience of this rally will be those who already support the idea that the constitution needs restoring. If you’re reading this and you’re generally supportive so far, but probably won’t make the effort to attend, YOU are the primary target audience. Why target mainly those who already agree with you? To show that it can, in fact, be done and to improve our ability to hold a bigger, SECOND “Restore the Constitution” rally if any of us chose to do so.

Objective:
1. Unite as many as will come to the edge of Washington, D.C. to rally in support and defense of the Constitution of the United States of America and to stand, armed and united, with our brothers and sisters delivering the same basic message to our servant politicians in DC and in the state capitals.
2. Exercise our God given rights to assembly and freedom of speech (First Amendment) while simultaneously exercising the right to keep and bear arms (Second Amendments).
3. To show our elected servants in DC and the state capitals that we will not stand by idly while their corruption, dishonesty, and outright violations of our country’s founding principles destroy the American Republic.
4. Receive media exposure through national press, special interest press organizations, and independent media sources.
5. To continue the networking between average Americans concerned about the future that has been happening over the past twenty years, as governmental power grew and individual freedoms shrank.

1) What is this event?
This is a civil rights rally with the simple message: Restore the Constitution! We plan to show our support for constitutional government at all levels – Federal, state, and local – by exercising our civil rights as guaranteed by the First, Second, Fourth, Ninth, and Tenth Amendments to the US Constitution.

2) Where?
The main rally is taking place at (proposed) Gravelly Point Park, VA, which is part of the George Washington Parkway National Park.

3) When?
From 8 am through dark on April 19, 2010.

4) Who?
Citizens who demand that the Constitution be followed, as written.

5) Why?
Because on one level, the Constitution of the United States is being passively overlooked by many in the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the US government. But on another level, the Constitution of the United States is being actively undermined by many in the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the US government. Both are totally unacceptable.

More as planning proceeds.

Are those who attend ready for the strong possibilty of armed confrontation with the police??? Regardless of what permits you may hold that will not deter those in law enforcement who are looking for a fight.

There needs to be another armed group at the ready nearby but out of sight. If things get out of control you'll have back up.

500 police really don't want to face 1500 armed citizens. Make our numbers overwhelming!!!!

Just a thought......

Anon: Hope to see you on the line on 4/19/10.

Let's be completely clear here:

This civil rights rally will be held in accordance with all local/state/Federal laws and regulations.

If that can't be done, freedom-loving people will have learned a key fact about the American Constitution's vital signs.

And if bad people choose to disrupt that completely-legal civil rights demonstration, that too will be a lesson for freedom-loving people around the world.

"The whole world's watching...
The whole world's watching.."

Commenters, keep your wits about you here, ok?

Concerned Citizen, Please help me understand.

"This civil rights rally will be held in accordance with all local/state/Federal laws and regulations." I understand your intentions. There are those in power do not care if you are following laws. They want our side crushed

"If that can't be done, freedom-loving people will have learned a key fact about the American Constitution's vital signs."

Why do we need another rally to tell us what we have known for years??? Vital signs no longer exist. That's my point.

"And if bad people choose to disrupt that completely-legal civil rights demonstration, that too will be a lesson for freedom-loving people around the world."

DISRUPT is too mild of a word. Having an open carry and not be ready for the worst is self defeating. What will that show the world? Americans carrying guns are too scared to use them!!

"The whole world's watching...
The whole world's watching.."

Nobody cares if the world is watching!! Do you believe that there is anyone left who will ride to the rescue???

"Commenters, keep your wits about you here, ok?"

I'm asking the tough questions because the time for messing around is OVER!! Playing pattycake is never going to restore anything. We are in a fight whether you want to admit that or not. We are in a fight for our lives and the lives of all who come after us. Their future rides on our decisions. I'll pass on your protest because if I attend an open carry event it will be for the expressed purpose of a true display of strength.

I had already thought somewhat along these lines, and had decided that I would go concealed, and I think some others should also. It's kinda like being in the wrong place at the wrong time when the bad boys case a joint prior to their actions, see someone carrying openly, so shoot him in the back of the head before revealing their intentions, and why I always concealed. I think as a precautionary matter, this would be a good idea for a certain percentage.

Anon, to this:
"I'll pass on your protest because if I attend an open carry event it will be for the expressed purpose of a true display of strength."

Why not come to the event, or at least watch the thing, and display some "strength?" If what we're trying to accomplish here ain't a show of strength, I don't know what is.

Getting Constitutionalists together is a real cat-herding challengs, and a lot of the objections from fellow so-called "Patriots" and "2A supporters" are along the lines of the event being too radical or un-PC.

Now your objecting because of a lack of enough armed me as "muscle." If you want to see 1500 armed men and "overwhelming" numbers, then SHOW UP and bring some friends.

This rally is an open invite for any and all to step up to the line without crossing it. Assistance and constructive input is welcome.

Yup -- 'twas linked above.

One of the organizing concepts of the RTC rally is to provide an alternative venue to folks who bridle at the idea of having to fully disarm in order to legally demonstrate in the same District where their servants -- politicians and employees alike -- work.

Sounds interesting.

On a tangent of sorts, I've come to dislike the phrase 'civil rights'. I am increasingly getting the sense that really means 'civil privileges', as opposed to '[constitutional] rights', which is what I think you really mean,.

George:

I get your distinction and agree with it, but if you said the two phrases to the average mushroom, which would have more legitimacy?

Oh yes, you're right on that. That's part of the problem. The principled foundation for rights has been swept away.

"This civil rights rally will be held in accordance with all local/state/Federal laws and regulations."

'Because even if we don't like it when the National Socialists declare us gun owners to be vermin, we still accept and support the authority of the National Socialists. Let's all assemble, and then step back in unison, starting off by neutering our big advantage of concealed weapons. Watch us support the regime by begging our masters to grant us more privileges!'

"we are still assessing whether it is in fact the closest carry-legal location to DC where we can hold a rally"

The "closest carry-legal location"? Why don't these people hold a rally where they cringe, roll on their backs, and expose their throats and underbellies while wetting in submissive fear? It's the same message. I can't wait to see the rally where they voluntarily handcuff themselves inside the boxcars to prove they're loyal citizens. The last time the Bad People demanded that, millions fell for it. Make sure you get your taxes filed on time before you go to the rally.

"if you said the two phrases to the average mushroom, which would have more legitimacy?"

Who cares about mass legitimacy? My human rights do not depend on what the average mushrooms think. The mushrooms give aid and comfort to the Bad People, which makes them junior-league bad people themselves. This aid and comfort is an operational reality to be considered, but only that. You can't convince the mushrooms, and you will never get an electoral majority favoring liberty. You must innovate and find ways to avoid the reach of the mushrooms, so they can't prevent you from living free.

At least the objections on to the idea on this site's comments are along different lines than the usual objections I see elsewhere. No matter; Anon (or anons) are still part of the target audience and will see that, yes, in fact, constitutionalists can gather carrying firearms and make a bold, bold, pro-liberty statement that will be impossible to ignore. Perhaps the anons of America could be persuaded to come out for the NEXT RTC rally after seeing the first. It's all about the target audience.

The Constitutionalists seem to want income taxes of 10% instead of 50%. This would be an improvement, in the same way that house arrest is better than waterboarding. However, I want zero taxes. Can you imagine the abolitionists in 1800 demonstrating with signs saying "abolish 80% of slavery" or "the negro deserves to be mostly free"?
