Corroboration
A reader sends this link confirming the TSA searches of Amtrak passengers last month.
Lee?
If tomorrow all the things were gone,
I’d worked for all my life.
And I had to start again,
with just my children and my wife.
I’d thank my lucky stars,
to be livin here today.
‘ Cause the flag still stands for freedom,
and they can’t take that away.
And I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘ Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.
From the lakes of Minnesota,
to the hills of Tennessee.
Across the plains of Texas,
From sea to shining sea.
From Detroit down to Houston,
and New York to L.A.
Well there's pride in every American heart,
and its time we stand and say.
That I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘ Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.
And I’m proud to be and American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘ Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

Lee is confused, he thinks the US government is America.
As I've stated many times, America has never been, isn't now, and will never be the US government. We can abolish or alter the US government, America, on the other hand, will continue on.
Rome fell, Italy and the Italians are still there.
I'm as patriotic as any american citizen, spent 7 yrs in the USMC, enlisted during the VN war.
Just having to listen to that C/W shit is enough to make me hurl!!! And makes my skin crawl with all it's smarmy lyrics.
If that makes you a real patriotic american, I'll pass.

Isn't it ironic (dontcha think) that Amtrak, a government organization, is the only effective resistance to the TSA thus far?
I want to vomit whenever I hear that song. I so very much love my country but this is not the same land I was raised in.
And the average American sleep on through it all in his delusion of "we are free" and "it can't happen here."
Piss on Lee Greewood and the horse he rode in on.

That's only bedause the Amtrac baron doesn't want to surrender any of his territory to the BATF baron. Their ruler(obuma) will no doubt have to arbitrate this one.
Anon 11:11 and 2:21,
Maybe I am missing something, but why all the animosity toward the song? You don't like country music. OK, no problem. The point isn't the music, as much as it is the lyrics.
Sure, the song may make you sad, severely disappointed, because we don't live in the same country you/we grew up in. But I just don't see why the song itself makes you so bitter.
Seriously, enlighten me. I am open to being educated. I am just missing the point on why you would want to piss on Lee Greenwood and his horse.

I despise, detest, and abhor my government - from the local city council all the way up to the white house!
That being said, I wore a Marine uniform for 7 years and would have gladly shouldered a rifle in defense of my country. But the enemy is HERE now! They've taken over and subverted all that Jefferson, Adams, Mason and Madison put in place.
Mock patriotism makes me sick to my stomach. I know in my heart there will come the day when bumpersticker patriots will be rounded up and herded into captivity right here in Lee's America.
Awww hell... what else can I say? There is no Republic any more. Only my family and my tribe.
I'll explain my POV on the song.
It's heartbreaking.
Before I saw things more clearly, I believed I was free, the Republicans were the party of freedom, and I lived in the greatest country on earth.
The past 20 years have been very painful.
I see much more clearly now, and I cite the lyrics as a (probably too oblique) reminder to folks of the canyons between our illusions, our ideals, and our reality.
The worst part of the Amtrak thing was that the passengers were searched *AFTER* arriving at their destination and *AFTER* debarking the train.
NO possible justification for a *TSA* search existed -- and any other "LE" agency would have been inarguably illegal on 4th-amendment grounds.
Personally, I believe *ALL* TSA searches are illegitimate on 4A grounds, but this one is so outrageous that NOBODY should be able to defend it.
Disgusting.
The ONLY possible point of such treatment -- ESPECIALLY of children -- is conditioning.
Get 'em young, and train 'em to be good little sheep...
Hey JoesyWales, Here is a clue:
"the flag still stands for freedom"
AND THEY HAVE TAKEN THAT AWAY!
"I love this land"
BUT I AM ASHAMED OF WHAT GOVERNMENT HAS BEEN ALLOWED TO DO TO IT/US.
I like country music...real country music, not this corn porn shit that sells as country today.
So it seems to me that Mr. Greenwood has made a lot of money singing that song to a bunch of flag waiving ignoramuses who apparently don't care to see what the hell is going on.
Read Tom Baugh posted here today above. It explains the game pretty well. I would argue that if you only get to keep half of the earnings from your productivity you are not free!
Then go on down the list of things you think you are free to do in modern day America. Here are just a few:
buy a gun- not without filling out federal and state forms for permission. Carry a gun- depending where you are you likely need for permission for that and some places it is out of the question.
drive a car- not with out permission from the state and a laundry list of other requirements.
exercise your right to travel by most any means- not without the possibility of being searched and possibly seized.
raise a family- not without jumping through hoops to please your overlords.
I will also second what Pat H. pointed out and what CA has stated.
WE ARE NOT FREE! So when Lee starts to twang out the hollow platitudes it makes me want to vomit.
Sorry to be so harsh but I have become exceedingly bitter about what kind of country I am leaving to my children and grandchildren.
Hope that explains my disgust.

I also started out today to post a reply to JoseyWales, but I got so carried away with my anger and realized this was not the place to take it out on JoseyWales, so I deleted it. Then I came here and found you finished my comment for me. Thanks.

Pat baby would you mind offering some proof or corroboration to your theory that "he thinks the US government is America"? The lyrics do not indicate that opinion.
Well, I appreciate the explanations.
Makes sense, and no offense taken. Everything you explained is accurate in my eyes.
I know we are not free, and lose more freedom every day.
I guess my mistake is/was thinking (hoping) that more people understand the difference between fantasy and reality. I know, I know. I know better than that.

I believe that "country" music was invented by people that wanted to help other people have music to commit suicide by. I don't have animosity towards it, I just quit listening to it. I already know about drug abuse, adultery, divorce, love gone bad/wrong,trucks,alcoholism,drunkeness,dogs,children,and overly aggressive and loud women. Lee Greenwoods song is sappy, outdated, and a waste of time. As is most music on the radio. I listen to classical music, most of it with no words, and afterwards I don't feel as if I've eavesdropped on someones private life. Yes, classical music is also outdated, sappy and a waste of time to many. To each his own. I quit going to gatherings so I wouldn't have to listen to this song.
It's not just Lee Greenwood, it's Sean Hannity, Mike Gallagher, Rush Limbaugh, and yes, Mike Savage that we have to combat.
I've stated in the past that the current state of the US government is exactly what was intended by the cabal that set up the Constitutional Convention which met in 1787. Hamilton, Washington, and Jay wanted it set up to be what it is now immediately, that was rejected. However what did come out of that Convention was what those delegates thought would be tolerated enough to be ratified. It was Adams and his SCOTUS Chief Justice appointee, John Marshall, that adjusted the meaning of the Constitution to bend it towards what they wanted during the Convention.
The 1803 case, Marbury v. Madison and the 1819 case, McColloch v. Maryland, are two "reinterpretation cases" that make my point.
