They may have taken an oath to defend the Constitution but have they actually read the document? Do they understand what it set in motion and the foundational arguments that support it?
I have my doubts. Only time will tell.
KPN3%
They may have taken an oath to uphold the Constitution, but then Dubya has said the Constitution is just a G*d D***n piece of paper. His successor feels the same way. As Bertrand de Juvenal has written:"A society of sheep must in time beget a government of wolves."
Now what?!
Sorry, but the truth is that the Police State is only possible with the ENTHUSIASTIC cooperation of the POLICE. In every single instance that I know of throughout recorded history, the POLICE have sided with the tyrants to become their thugs and enforcers - we would be fools to believe that this will somehow be different. Shame on them for betraying our Republic.
Seattle: The wrong man was chased by black-clad SWAT-type officers (who look like toughs) and is then violently shoved 10 feet(?) face-first into a wall. He goes into a coma and is permanently disabled. Police say it was a "tragedy". The only tragedy is that no police officer had to pay with prison time or huge monetary damages for destroying this young man's life.

I took that oath too. I intend to enforce it.
@Anonymous: "They may have taken an oath to defend the Constitution but have they actually read the document? Do they understand what it set in motion and the foundational arguments that support it?"
Sadly, in modern America, the Constitution only means what 7 old guys and 2 old lesbians say it does. And yeah, the police do a pretty good job defending that Constitution.
The Constitution isn't a damned piece of paper. It's a damned dessicated skin of a dead sheep. Ideas, believed in and lived out, are what make men free. And the Constitution does not contain those kinds of ideas.
The Constitution is written on a dead sheep. With iron ink. Is that irony really lost on people?
Something like that would seem to be an outstanding opportunity to "reach out and touch someone" from afar.
For Anonymous at 5:25 AM:
You might want to check your source for that alleged quote:
http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/did_president_bush_call_the_constitution_a.html
When FactCheck stands up for Shrub, they are usually correct. Not that I think he was a decent president, but compared to the foul swill that ran against him...
And yeah, the police do a pretty good job defending that Constitution.
Jimmy, are you serious?
Concerned,
I think Jimmy was talking about police defending "that Constitution," meaning the one that means whatever a few blackrobes say it means.
tx Brass!
More details on the fatal police shooting in Chesterfield County outside Richmond, Va. The lawyer prepared a suit trying to get the county to pay the police fairly. There would have been a hearing on it that day.

In addition to what Anon @ 2:48pm wrote is the following Friday 14 Jan 2011 piece about another organization that's traditionally supported tyrants:
Church firmly, quietly opposes firearms for civilians

One wonders what response O'Reilly & especially Hannity would have about the above.
