My astronomy teacher once said there used to be a joke among scientists: "Never let your Congressmen figure out what the word 'trillion' means..." He chuckled and said, "That doesn't really apply anymore."
Better if those now 37-year-olds start figuring out which of the local commissars is going to fall from a local overpass into rush hour traffic.
Rinse, repeat.
Can't we just vote the bad guys out of office and replace them with good guys? I mean, it's not the institution of taking money from people at gunpoint that's the problem, it's just the people who run it.
So get out there and vote! Change you can believe in!
That was an excellent ad and the back story was quite interesting. That one should be updated and run now.
I remember the Grace commission and I remember reading through the recommendations that came out of his work. All good ideas, tough but reasonable changes that would have put us on a debt free course. Sad! It is literally too late. There is no way we could ever pay down the debt to a reasonable level. And eventually, maybe next year, maybe the year after, interest rates will rise and servicing the debt will be impossible. At that point we will be officially in default. We cannot stop it from happening. We are frantically borrowing money to prevent a deeper recession/depression and all it is doing is making the problem worse. We are literally on the precipice teetering waiting to be pushed over the edge.
