Living in an Imperial World: USMC Uses Indianapolis for Urban "Training Exercise"
I have suspected for some time that the real motivation behind the sham "security theatre" foisted on Americans by the TSA and other .gov types since 9/11 is to foster compliance behavior and to desensitize folks to the presence of an overt police state.
That suspicion was heightened when a friend sent this story from Indianapolis:

...U.S. Marine helicopters will land at the old Eastgate Consumer Mall, Brookside Park and other Indianapolis locations when the city becomes a mock battlefield next week.
About 2,300 Marines from the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based at Camp Lejeune, N.C., will conduct urban warfare training from Wednesday through June 19 in and around Indianapolis.

Most of the troops will be deployed at the Indiana State Fairgrounds and the Raytheon facility on Holt Road, said Debbi Fletcher of the Indianapolis/Marion County Emergency Management Agency.
“We don’t want anyone thinking that there’s an invasion happening or that we declared martial law or something like that,” Fletcher said.
The Marines have been cleared by state, federal and local authorities, Fletcher said. The unit’s commander promised to try to keep noise to a minimum and give neighbors plenty of warning.
“Our aim in Indianapolis is to expose our Marines to realistic scenarios and stresses posed by operating in an actual urban community, thereby increasing their proficiency in built-up areas,” Col. Mark J. Desens, commander of the 26th MEU, said in a statement. “While some of the activity will take place around Camp Atterbury, residents in many areas can expect to see helicopters flying overhead, military vehicles on the roads and Marines patrolling on foot,” Desens said...

After that, refresh your memory of the infamous 29 Palms questionnaire - directing your attention especially to the final question.
Next: review the true story of a young American soldier who had the courage to place his loyalty to the Constitution above his obediance to his superiors' orders.
Then think long and hard about the implications and the real objectives of this "training exercise".
This fellow certainly has.

Flustered patriots, please write this as many times as needed to internalize the fact: The USMC is NOT the ATF.
A Long Time Ago in a Galaxy Far, Far Away. . . well, actually it was the '90's and the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit was using some old buildings in Birmingham to train in MOUT. As it was the Clinton Administration this was the cause of some apprehension amongst us constitutional militia folk. Through the good offices of a Birmingham city councilman, my XO and me sat down with the Marine CO and his PR guy BEFORE the event so they could brief us on what they were going to do and why. It was all very professional, until the blarney in me came out and I told them that I was glad that they had briefed me on it because otherwise our thought was to wait until they were on the way west into Birmingham on their helo assault and 'round about the vicinity of Moody, Alabama, we would release weather balloons in rapid sequence with green cyalume sticks tied to their tails so they would look like big fat lazy Chicom tracers coming up at them -- just to help them along as volunteer OPFOR. The CO's mouth turned down at both corners and he tersely asked, "You're kidding right?" And I laughed and told him, well, maybe half. But since we HAD been briefed, I assured him, we would just be silent observers to watch and see how the pros did it. ;-) We shook hands, and that's exactly what happened.
Remember that this was just after the garbled news about the Cunningham survey came out, asking Marines if they would fire on US citizens. The motivation of Cunningham, a Marine officer, was to get Marines thinking about NOT just reflexively obeying unconstitutional orders. Still, the Koernke crowd insisted on making it out to be proof positive that the Gyrenes were about to attack us all.
It is important to NOT immediately assume that such training has any more nefarious purpose than keeping Marines' skills up-to-date so that they may more effectively use them on "enemies foreign." They are still OUR Marines you know. Most of them, especially the officers and senior NCOs, are as devoted to the Constitutional Republic as we are, and some of them more so having actually risked more for its survival.
Much can actually be learned by watching the way they do things during these exercises. So my advice is to crank back a bit, protest less and watch and learn more. If you start treating such men as enemies one of two things will happen: they will doubt your sanity and common sense, or they actually will start considering you THEIR enemy. Don't borrow trouble. Keep your wits about you and keep your powder dry.

Oh please. No similarity between Inianoplis and anywhere else our troops are currently fighting?
How about, oh, I don't know- Baghdad?
But then again, you might just be right. Certainly the last time I looked Baghdad was not a large city full of people, roads, and tall buildings, was it? No, there is no similarity between them at all. In fact, I am rather sure that Indianapolis is not like any city anywhere else in the world. Not only is it totally like Baghdad, but learning to fight in a city such as Indianapolis would not help you in Tehran, Beirut, Beijing, or any other urban zone our marines might find themselves in either.
