Buying Incumbency With Your Tax Dollars
The graph from this article says it all.
1,176 Federal subsidy programs in 1990.
1,776 such programs in 2007.
All of them funded by tax dollars taken from you at gunpoint by the Internal Revenue System to ensure that the Federal Government apparatus continues to exist and even expand.
Criminy. The Founders must be spinning in their graves.....
Thanks to Billy Beck and the Cato at Liberty blog. Each has been added to our blogroll, and are worth a read as part of your daily round.

Yep. The Republicans that claimed they want to reduce government had obviously lied. That's why we don't hear too much from Newt Gringrich anymore.
I have an inflammatory way of phrasing the problem:
"Does it really matter if you are imprisoned/tortured/shot/gassed/tasered/"disasppeared" by Stalin versus Hitler versus Mussolini versus Che versus Pol Pot versus Mugabe versus Mao versus Castro?"
Nope it don't matter. But it seems to me that Republicans are far more likely to make the US into a police state than Democrats. Who abolished habeas corpus and who fought against restoring it?
From what I've seen, most Libertarians ignore violations of the constitution by the Republicans and instead focus on calling Hilary a communist or socialist.
In a related matter check out this story: http://www.crooksandliars.com/2007/12/06/republicans-sens-cochran-and-stevens-not-only-the-kings-of-pork-they%e2%80%99re-outright-hogs/.
I highly recommend Crooks and Liars.
Here is another piece about the Republicans using the government to leach money from you, me, and every other taxpayer: http://www.crooksandliars.com/2007/12/06/countdown-counting-the-failures-of-homeland-security/
The problem isn't government. The problem is Republicans.
Bro: If you truly believe that governmental sin is confined to one party, then you too are part of the problem.
Read some more history, then come back and chat.
