Got Purification?

You should - in a format that is small enough and tough enough to go wherever you go.

Remember the Rule of Threes.

And make sure you try whatever you get on dirty, nasty water now, while med care is still available if the unit doesn't perform as promised.

You really don't want the hemorrhagic blowsh*ts once the excitement begins.

Really.

  1. This is by far the best avaialble for three reasons:

1 - You can collect the 'nasty' water and split to purify it later if necessary.

2 - When purifying, the stream is strong enough to use for wound irrigation.

3 - This particular unit can be filled with urine 4 times before killing the cartridge and provide pure water.

Spendy? A bit...but you get what you pay for. This is a purifier, not just a filter.

What some of our guys have done is bought the 4000 as it's cheaper because of the filter element and purchased the 6000 filter replacement as they're interchangable.

    FWIW....

  2. Filters are great short term convenient solutions, they are not however a long term solution.

In the absence of a secure clean water source, look at using a solar oven and WAPIs. Hard boiling of water is just not required to keep you safe, just pasteurization temperatures are needed.

In a grid down, you will have more important things to do than pump a filter or boil water.

  3. Beware of the battery types required by many UV based purifiers. The Steripen is excellent but will not function on alkaline batteries. Steripen makes a handcrank version on Amazon for around a hundred bucks and the bulb lasts for 8000 liters

  4. Getting a big Berkey is next on my list, but this goes on the list behind it.

Although, I will admit that I saw the symbol and thought, "swedish made penis enlarging pump?" Thanks, Austin Powers.

  5. I've had a Sweetwater filter in my GOOD bag for about ten years. Have only one spare filter though. A few coffee filters are with the Sweetwater. Torn into pieces and bread tie wrapped around the pump's inlet line, this F/E pre-filter extends the life of the canister considerably.

  7. SODIS: everyone should Google it. A process of ridding water of pathogens by putting clear bottles (plastic or glass) in the sun for a solid 6 hours. The UV wavelength will kill the unpleasantnesses in clear water.
