This makes me sad, as I was excited about this product. That being said, if they fix it vs. it's a feature rout, it still stays on the shopping list...
Holy smokes. Yeah, that's gotta be fixed, for sure.
It will be interesting to see if Kel-Tec has an official reaction to this. I have heard favorable stories of their official response to problems with previous designs, so hopefully it is a straightforward matter of a positive fix.
Still, if that really is inherent to the design, it's surprising that something like that would have got through. That's a simple "armorer's check" operation!
I don't never have the trigger pulled when I'm pumpin' the shotgun, so it's a non issue with me. I know you can get a shot off faster that way, but with a Winchester 1300 and Remington 870 you can also break the trigger doing that. Less control of the gun while firing that way is another reason I don't do it.
It's always wise to stick wit hte tried and true, at least until some sort of empirical data is avaialble....like performance in a hostile environment over a long period of time.
So...I'll stick with the Ithica 37 (old model), Winchester M12 trench gun or even a '97 with an exposed hammer, or a contemporary Rem 870 circa 1975 riot gun or a Mossberg 500 military...or even a Win 1200 Defender....
Frankly, I thought the thing was ugly. I guess that says a lot about me/my tastes. I like steel, leather, wood as opposed to polymer, plastic, kydex and whatever else they are making guns and holsters out of nowadays. I know some of the newer guns have their place and I cannot argue the reliability of the Glock and others but that gun was ugly!
I also like the dual purpose of a standard shotgun. Home defense and bird hunting for example. That ugly thing has only one purpose so it lacks attraction on that level for me as well.
To each his own and I guess I am old fashioned in more ways than one.
Why would you buy this when you can readily secure a Russian made SAIGA-12, semi-auto 12 gauge with a 20 round drum magazine ?
Kel-Tec....untried, unproven, unavailable. SAIGA shotguns, proven in combat and available through American firearms dealers; a shotgun that's ready to rock and roll ! Saiga's kick ass in 3 gun tacticals.

I saw this short video a few days ago and wasn't impressed at all. My Saiga 12 is much faster, needless to say.

demo product at SHOT: Beta version.
ReplyDeleteNot For Sale: No Problem.
If at Bi-Mart gun rack being sold to public, that would be trouble. I would like to hear about balance/feel, etc.
Cheers.
someone rushed some prototypes to a tradeshow without testing them first?
ReplyDeleteHeads are going to roll over this in the company I guess.

All those work well. And that's what counts.
+1 on Ithaca M37 -- highly underrated piece.
ReplyDeleteFrankly, I thought the thing was ugly.

Bummer, I thought that was going to be pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteIf only we could convince SWAT teams everywhere to buy these up like crazy.
ReplyDeleteIf it were time to worry about new toys, I'd keep up with the story on this one.
ReplyDeleteAs it is, time is better spent getting things in gear - tried and true gets the job done.
On that note, I do like the Ithaca 37 too. Yet another John Moses Browning masterpiece.....
Keep your powder dry,
