Got Them Old 'Predator's Looking Over At Me, Ma, Don't Know What I've Done' Blues

Long-time civil liberties author Nat Hentoff provides a crisp example of why, as Vandam stated recently, the WRSA editorial philosophy is:

No matter how bad you think a situation is, it’s worse.

Does that long-distance pistol training suggestion make any more sense now?

Thanks to Sofa at Coordinated Illumination for the link.

  1. update: To defend against drones, consider using six solid-state lasers with an output of 32 kilowatts to simultaneously focus on a target.

But even in small doses, lasers can damage sensors.

  2. Gives new meaning to "Wing Shooting" eh?

  3. Can't they just fly higher that the bullets would travel? You'd need a powerful rifle...

  4. Gotta land. Gotta take off. Gotta be maintained. Gotta have datalinks both up and down.

  5. I have some of my mom's old knitting needles that have been sharpened to a needle point. Can't wait to plunge then into the desired target to see if they bleed out. Knitting needles are as silent as silence can be and aren't labeled "Assault Needles" but can get the same job accomplished. Just my 2 cents worth.

  6. If you can see the drone, you're already screwed.

If it's there only to "observe" then the boots on the ground are watching the uplink and using it to vector in on you.

If it's there to bomb you, it can hardly miss.

CA beat me to it with his comment.

  7. "Gotta land. Gotta take off. Gotta be maintained. Gotta have datalinks both up and down."

Reminds me of a Marshall Tito story from WW2: He was one of the primary partisan leaders against the Germans. A reporter asked him, "How are your partisans, armed only with old rifles, going to defeat the Germans and their new Panzers?" Tito's response is a classic, and also wise in the way that Sun Tzu's works are: "When the Germans get out of their new Panzers to take a piss, my partisans will shoot them with their old rifles."

That is the definition of a perfect military plan - fight the enemy where you are strong and he is weak, not the other way around.

I'd daresay that there's also a human component to the drones, and that this component can be rendered somewhat less effective in many different ways.

  8. We know the authorites already use infrared-equipped planes over the cities. They don't seem to be very effective at "crime prevention" here. But on a specific mission, yes, they could identify and track a target and guide ground forces to them.
We also know that whatever the government uses against the enemy in war can be brought to bear on citizens here. They used internationally-banned CS tear gas on the Branch Davidians at Waco. Highly flammable in indoor concentrations and adjudged too cruel for use against enemy military.
Then Clinton went golfing and Hillary and Chelsea saw some wonderful patriotic presentations in Colonial Williamsburg.
Predator missions here in the States? I'd have to refuse that illegal order, sir.
