When The Engine Starts To Sputter...

You'll be glad to have read these thoughts on alternate communications and communities, and then acted on them.

Remember - the aircraft does not have fuel to reach land.

You have been told in advance.

How you spend the remaining time will cause you either sorrow or relief in the future.

  1. The most important thing is to remember to fly the airplane until it stops moving.
    1. maintain airspeed
    2. fly the airplane
    3. select a landing place
    4. fly the airplane
    5. line up on the landing place
    6. fly the airplane

    And so forth.

  2. When it comes to communication, we still have these remarkable devices called Pencils and Paper. You can fit them in your pocket and they are used by everyone in the world.

  3. The electronic "dead-drop" thing is goofy. The man says "Nobody will notice because you're offline"

    Riiiight.

Nobody will notice some guy plugging his laptop into the frigging wall? Squatting under a phone-booth in Union Station?

    Riiiight!

    Now...

Look around for "world's smallest thumb-drive." I have several - gave one to each of my kids. It's a USB "male" plug, and a little socket for a MICRO-USB card -- that's it.

~.5x.75", up to (IIRC) 64GB now, and only a couple of grams. I'd imagine one could swallow it if necessary.

Combine a bunch of these - or even just the micro-USB cards themselves - and more usual "dead-drop" tech, and...

One more thought: There are all sorts of "live-stick" OS implementations which would fit on even a 1GB micro-SD card. Combine with one of the micro-readers I referenced, and all sorts of possibilities present themselves to inquiring minds.

Library computers booted with your own OS could be very useful - as could other things...

Combine some of the ideas - like using a LT for a pirate-box, booting from a micro-SD reader?

    Hmmmmm.....!!
