Mausers are so good that several manufacturers have them in current production. Great strong design without royalties or development costs!
I recently got a Japanese-made Howa 1500 that is essentially a Mauser action with CNC precision and an improved safety. Groups nicely, trigger breaks cleanly, and easy to take down. AFAICT, unbeatable for US$349 as a firearm and/or financial speculation.
It's no coincidence that it's not possible to get a $400 new (Savage/Weatherby) or near-mint surplus rifle in Europe (or certain US States/cities) without vetting/background check/LE approval/City Council approval/long waiting period/gun-club storage & membership/State training/regular inspection/ammo logging-quantity limits/safe requirements/land ownership requirements/etc.
Optics/rings/mounts are next.
Long arms are rarely used in crime, compared to concealable short weapons. .50BMG rifle is the least-used crime weapon, at 28 pounds and 5 feet. So why the politicians moaning about how "dangerous" it is? You know why.
Any and all excuses to keep the 400M+ circle of danger for tyrants unpopulated of uncontrolled angry marksmen seem "reasonable" to lawmakers.
When the histories of this time are finally written accurately, Oleg Volk will be properly recognized as the great and serious artist that he is. It is difficult--very difficult--to overstate the power in his work, and we are fortunate to have his shoulders to lean on.
What I like most about this one is that he's not even advocating that anyone vote. Whether you still feel that voting may have some value, or whether you believe that we ain't voting our way out of this mess--Oleg's message is just the same.
THAT is why I continually advocate identifying the REAL enemy and focusing on them in the initial action. Once the enablers are removed, THERE NO LONGER IS a "400M+ circle." And one can deal with the tyrants personally and appropriately. Which is MUCH more satisfying than doing so from 400M+ away...
