"I’m afraid the current state of affairs is corrupt through and through. From the top of the financial world in New York, to the top of the political world in DC, right down to the average man on the street, 50% of whom aren’t obligated to pay income taxes but feel entitled to be net recipients of government largesse at the expense of others."
"...But everything the U.S. government is doing – raising taxes, increasing regulations, and inflating the currency – is not only the wrong thing to do, but exactly the opposite of the right thing..."
I keep saying it.
These people aren't morons - they're marxists.
Ergo, they know what they're doing, and have reasons for doing it.
Another question: "If they were indeed TRYING to destroy the country - to literally tear it apart at the seams both socially and economically -- what would they do differently?"
I can't come up with anything.
Again -- marxists - not morons.
It's deliberate.
Why?
That's not entirely clear, though I've heard some good theories...
One thing is sure - they believe they will benefit directly from the outcome.
As I see it, the only way to stop them is to make them understand that they'll lose -- and lose MOST OF ALL -- if they continue.
Many people have a lot to lose in a economic collapse but the people that cause the collapse will lose all there is to lose,at the end of a rope. They should be aware of this.

THIS is what I mean when I claim a tax rebellion can make inroads into the middle class who otherwise support big government. You immobilize the green and red Nazis by cutting off the funding and legitimacy of their enforcement legions.

I think it's error and decay of aristocratic culture. To maintain their position, the aristocrats should have educated their children to be slaveowners and European nobility. Instead, their children have learned the Envy/Communistic/anti-productive nonsense which was developed to cripple and befuddle the middle class. The current policymakers believe they will benefit from the current policies, but they are mistaken. Communism as policy produces failure.
You've heard that it's hard to keep a family business going after the founding mover and shaker passes away? Successful entrepreneurs are rare, and it's hard to grow or find a replacement. I think the greater American aristocratic class is suffering from this problem. I think this family succession failure is the main reason why aristocrats change about every 200 years.
