RTC 8/14: Guilford Courthouse National Military Park, Greensboro, NC

Where: Amphitheater near the Greene monument, Guilford Courthouse NMP, Greensboro, NC

Who: More than 200 citizens, most of whom were armed with sidearms and/or longarms and supplementary ammunition, as well as two Congressional candidates and several candidates for state office. The event was also attended by 10-15 US Park Service personnel, and upwards of 30 Greensboro PD uniformed personnel, including a mobile command post bus, at least one converted civilian armored truck, and an 4-unit element of ATV-mounted, rifle-scabbarded police motor cavalry. Based on rumors of potentially hostile counter-demonstrators, the RTC rally area was limited to rally supporters, with any counter-protests reportedly held out of eye and earshot.

What: Approximately three hours of speeches, followed by a 30-minute history lesson by Mike Vanderboegh, who declaimed from the monument above sans PA system after the other speakers ran long.

When: Initial supporters and rally volunteers started to arrive by 11 am edt on 14 August, with the speaker program commencing at 1 pm edt. All attendees departed the park grounds no later than 4:45 pm edt, as the park area closed at 5 pm edt.

How: Zero deaths, zero injuries (including heat injury), zero arrests, zero missing, zero incidents. Biggest challenges during the program were a few open-carriers who needed reminding by fellow attendees of (and immediately complied with) the rules of non-engagement re weapons carry, and some speakers who need to remember the KISSS (keep it short, sweet, and sparky) formula of public address.
