Jennifer III: Rethinking The Pistol As A Weapon Of War

Please read her latest.

Three comments:

1) More work needs to be done on normalizing open carry of long arms. There's a new project just spinning up on that very topic; more asap.

2) A concealed handgun is also less visible to all sorts of surveillance technology, from CC videos to UAVs in optical mode.

3) If your handgun is now your primary, better start expanding your training from the standard pistol distances (< 25 yards). To begin, put a standard IPSC silhouette at 100 yards and determine the holdover needed with your piece, sights, and load to drop rounds reliably into the boiler room. Keep at it, then extend to 200 yards.

  1. "A LOT of water has to go under the bridge until the situation gets to a point where you can calmly walk down the street with a rifle on your shoulder."

Which is why it's so important to hold open carry rallies with rifles. Get that water under the bridge.

  2. Just a suggestion: substitute a scrapped oil drum for the IPSC target. Saves a lot of walking to check 'scores'.

  3. Good info!
It is always a good idea to think outta the box.
imho the 45 colt and 44mag @ 100 do predictably well and are relatively easy to Carry

  4. The M-1, M-14, HK-91 can be broken down into 3 components, stuffed in a duffel bag and reassembled in seconds-at the worst. Folding stocks do reduce downrange accuracy but a stashed original stock can easily be stuck in the kit along with a vest with your loaded magazines and water canteen.

  5. 1/2-1/3MOA .338 take-down rifle can be broken down nicely, has a proper stock and optics, and is a hella better rifle than a M-1, Emma-14, or 91...

Some tactical ideas might look more safari oriented than "tacti-cool" but they were designed by and for people chasing DG in rough terrain. Some of the DG being two legged.

Tool for the job. Are you a skirmisher or a guerrilla sniper?

And a properly built take-down rifle gives up NOTHING in both precision and accuracy (not the same things, remember?).

Zinging .44 Mag from a handgun at elk sized targets at 200 yards has some utility. Drilling elk in the eye at 800 yards with a proper rifle has more utility. My two pence.
