After You've Lost Control Of Your Destiny

Three books recommended for those who want more detail on what happens after a country loses military and economic control of its fate:

Gone With The Wind

Simply put, I am ashamed that I was fifty before I read this novel. Far superior than the movie in its depth and breadth of each character, I use this classic as an introductory survival novel for those who cannot or will not read other, more conventional works.

Life In Dixie During The War

A non-fiction work used by Mitchell as research for GWTW, this classic places you in Decatur, Georgia before, during, and after the Union attack and occupation.

After The Reich

A brutally-detailed factual accounting of what happened in both Germany and the former German-occupied territories from early 1945 forward. Never pro-German in his sentiments, the author simply recounts how revenge, pillage, famine, and rapine scourged Central Europe at the hands of the victors.

"Every time the telegraph wire was cut we would burn a house; every time a train was fired upon we should hang a man; and we would continue doing this until every house was burned and every man hanged between Decatur and Bridgeport."
Order of Col. John Beatty, regimental commander Third Ohio Infantry, at Paint Rock Alabama, spring 1862.

  5. Though I haven't read "After the Reich," I have read a lot about "Operation Keelhaul," one of the darkest blots on the history of the United States and Great Britain.
The "greatest generation" and its politicians have a lot to answer for.

  6. Studying "reconstruction", and the horrors that were imposed on the South should be an eye opener for anyone who still has faith in government. "Honest Abe" was a dictatorial scumbag, as was his predecessor. Not to mention most presidents/CONgresses to follow. The Constitution has been defecated on since time immemorial. Virtually since it's inception....
