Repost: 'The Gauntlet' by The Dropkick Murphys

As suggested by reader 0321, these are the Dropkick Murphys singing "The Gauntlet":

Well I just got back from a break in the fight
I was weighing in heavy but still feeling alright
All I hear in the distance - mines and shells
Here come the sirens wailing
Another attack to be repelled

Do you think we're gonna make it?
I don't know unless we try
You could sit here scared to move
Or we could take them by surprise
It's submission that they want
It's surrender that they need
When we're doing it their way
Their aims will be achieved

They're gonna come when you're not ready
When you're not too well-prepared
They're gonna prey upon your weakness
No man's soul is ever spared
You've got to stand up, yeah, and fight them
Show them what it's all about
This man is not for sale
There will be no backing down.

[Chorus:]
Stand up and fight and I'll stand up with you
We shall succeed,
Stand up and fight and I'll stand up with you

They won't get me, they won't get me
Though they never cease to try
They won't get me, they won't get me
I would rather fight and die
They won't get me, they won't get me
Well my friend will they get you?
When they get you, when they get you
Tell me what you're gonna do?

Do you think we're gonna make it?
I don't know unless we try
You could sit here scared to move
Or we could take them by surprise
It's submission that they want
It's surrender that they need
When we're doing it their way
Their aims will be achieved.

They're gonna come when you're not ready
When you're not too well-prepared
They're gonna prey upon your weakness
No man's soul is ever spared
You've got to stand up, yeah, and fight them
Show them what it's all about
This man is not for sale
There will be no backing down.

[Chorus: x2]
Stand up and fight and I'll stand up with you
We shall succeed
Stand up and fight and I'll stand up with you

  1. Yoza!!! I think we found our fight song! I see us singing this on our way to fighting tyranny! Could you slow it down for us old farts? I think it would lose it's vibrancy...

  2. Love the lyrics. I'm more of a blues guy, but I still have enough hair to appreciate the music. Well, barely enough hair. Maybe it helps to be deaf in one ear.

  3. I'd be interested to understand who these guys are singing about as they are all self proclaimed democrats, liberals and socialists. But many a song meant for one purpose has been found better used for another purpose love it. I like www.thewarriorsong.com much better and my wife sent me this song, O America, sung by "Celtic Women" (O, America) love the words to this also and it hits the heart side of a man and women while Dropkick and the warrior song hit the guts.

Here are the lyrics to it...America is calling and needs a new start!

    O, America you’re calling,
I can hear you calling me:
You are calling me to be true to thee,
True to thee… I will be.

    O, America no weeping,
Let me heal your wounded heart:
I will keep you in my keeping,
Till there be… a new start.

And I will answer you, and I will take your hand,
And lead you… to the sun:
And I will stand by you…do all that I can do,
And we will be… as one.

    O, America I hear you,
From your prairies to the sea,
From your mountains grand, and all through this land,
    You are beautiful to me.

    And… O, America you’re calling,
I can hear you calling me:
You are calling me to be true to thee,
True to thee… I will be.

And I will answer you, and I will take your hand,
And lead you… to the sun:
And I will stand by you… do all that I can do,
    And we will be…as one.

    O, America you’re calling…
    I will ever answer thee.
