The Lies of Agents
Received from a reader:
After a weekend that was tiring, productive, cathartic, encouraging, and deeply saddening all at once, I sat reflecting for a few moments on a fine autumn afternoon, refreshing myself with fresh coffee and homemade pound cake. In the background played Neil Young’s Harvest (the first CD I ever purchased, back in 1984 when the technology was nascent and exciting, FWIW). With the pound cake finished and the coffee replenished, the last song on the album drifted fully into my consciousness – Words (Between the Lines of Age).
In a mostly stream of consciousness and unforced fashion, my own words jumped out in place of Young’s, and I scratched them on the back of a shopping list with a sporadically working ball point pen. After some minor touching up, here is the harvest of my unintentional inspiration.

November 8, 2009 (the day after the House passed the Health Care bill)
To the tune of “Words (Between the Lines of Age)” and with apologies to Neil Young:
Words (The Lies of Agents)
Reed and Pelosi were up on the Hill
Writing and scheming on usurping bills
Wasting our life blood on limitless toil
They don’t understand how this Nation will boil
Obama the Lightworker, fanning the flames
The Fool just don’t get it – we’re not playing games
Slingin’ Words – Words, they’re just the lies of Agents
Words – Words, they’re just the lies of Agents
Agents of Evil is all that they are,
Living illusions that They are the stars,
They think we’re sleeping, lost in a daze
Yet the Giant Awakens, he’s ready to raze
Living in castles that Liberty built
The Evil will burn as payment for guilt
Slingin’ Words – Words, they’re just the lies of Agents
Words – Words, they’re just the lies of Agents
That's good.
ReplyDeleteBrock,
ReplyDeleteI lost you on OK, what happened?
I am disappointed that you quote Neil Young, a well known Communist as an opponent of Obama-care. Neil Young is the typical leftard who supports gay marriage and smoking dope, but opposes the right to keep and bear arms, as well as keeping the money one works for. He is a communist supporter of the welfare/theft State. Let us not go to communists for justification of our support of the Constitution and property.
ReplyDeleteFederale:
ReplyDeleteThose aren't Neil Young's lyrics.
Federale,
ReplyDeleteAs noted by CA, those aren't Young's words - they're mine.
That is, except for a few of Young's that I reused (very few). I did, however, totally rip off Young on the structure, reused the music, and generally redirected the whole thing.
Perhaps that will make you feel a bit better about it? Even if not, try to separate the message from the messenger, and the art from the artist. It makes it much easier to identify the real battles and focus on them.
Cheers,
