From David Hardy:

In the last three months of 2008, that's right, three months, Americans bought enough guns to outfit the Chinese and Indian armies, combined. Actually, that's just reflective of the NICS checks, which don't cover sales by private parties, and buys by CCW permit holders. There were also 1.5 BILLION rounds of ammo sold, which explains why I'm having trouble finding .45 ACP lately....

Read the whole thing.
I believe that's what Vanderboegh calls "a strategic military fact that is almost overwhelming to contemplate."
And the beat goes on...
Thanks, Barry!
Keep in mind these numbers only show the number of transactions, not the number of guns sold, from a purely factual viewpoint.
ReplyDeleteWith the skyrocketing prices, alot of people have been buying up whatever they can find, jacking up the prices, and selling them on places like gunbroker. Judging from SOME of the prices, this may have happened several times, though that might definitely be offset by CCW holders in states that allow that, or civilian to civilian sales originating from someone who was holding on to a firearm for more than three months.
In any case, its a definate sign of the health of the firearms industry as a whole, which, as far as i can see, is good news for everyone.
Drums keep pounding rhythm to the braaaiiiin. Ladedadede, ladedadeda. Soldier, you stop listening to that damned hippie crap, and clean your rifle! Sir, yes sir! Goes back to cleaning rifle. Thinks, this is my rifle, this is my gun..........
