Guardsmen to conduct urban training at Arcadia in April
Daily Times-Herald (Carroll, Iowa)

Tuesday, February 17, 2009
The Carroll National Guard unit will train on urban military operations by holding a four-day exercise at Arcadia.
The purpose of the April 2-5 drill will be to gather intelligence, then search for and apprehend a suspected weapons dealer, according to Sgt. Mike Kots, readiness NCO for Alpha Company.
Citizens, law enforcement, media and other supporters will participate.
Troops will spend Thursday, April 2, staging at a forward operations base at Carroll. The next day company leaders will conduct reconnaissance and begin patrolling the streets of Arcadia to identify possible locations of the weapons dealer.
The primary phase will be done Saturday, April 4, when convoys will be deployed from Carroll to Arcadia. Pictures of the arms dealer will be shown in Arcadia, and soldiers will go door to door asking if residents have seen the suspect.
Soldiers will knock only at households that have agreed to participate in the drill, Kots noted.
"Once credible intelligence has been gathered," said Kots, "portions of the town will be road-blocked and more in-depth searches of homes and vehicles will be conducted in accordance with the residents' wishes.
"One of the techniques we use in today's political environment is cordon and knock," Kots explained. "We ask for the head of the household, get permission to search, then have them open doors and cupboards. The homeowner maintains control. We peer over their shoulder, and the soldier uses the homeowner's body language and position to protect him."
During this phase of the operation, troops will interact with residents and media while implementing crowd-control measures and possibly treating and evacuating injured persons.
The unit will use a Blackhawk helicopter for overhead command and control, and to simulate medevacs.
The drill will culminate in the apprehension of the suspected arms dealer.
Alpha Company will conduct a review of the drill on Sunday, April 5.
A meeting to give residents more information and accept volunteers will be held 7 p.m. Monday, March 2, in the Arcadia American Legion hall.
Kots said the exercise will replace Alpha Company's weekend drill for April.
"We have a lot of extended drills this coming year," he added.
In addition to surveillance, searching and apprehension, the exercise will also give the troops valuable experience in stability, support, patrol, traffic control, vehicle searches and other skills needed for deployment in an urban environment.
"This exercise will improve the real-life operational skills of the unit," said Kots. "And it will hopefully improve the public's understanding of military operations."
The pre-drill work with residents is as important at the drill itself.
"It will be important for us to gain the trust and confidence of the residents of Arcadia," said Kots. "We will need to identify individuals that are willing to assist us in training by allowing us to search their homes and vehicles and to participate in role-playing."
"We really want to get as much information out there as possible, because this operation could be pretty intrusive to the people of Arcadia."

Alea iacta est.
This is just getting to be toooooo much!
ReplyDeleteI think that the term, "Posse Commitatus" is being contemporarily interpreted as, "Pussy Communist" or something...
It's very interesting that the scenario calls for citizens cooperating with unconstitutional search and seizure methodology...
Where's the part in the scenario where the road is blocked ala' April 19th, 1775 by a group of Armed Citizens demanding the inbound troops cease and desist?
Can we "role play" shooting them for violating their oaths, and committing treason against the people?
ReplyDeleteWe'll use blanks, of course, so long as they do likewise.
Why not? It'd be just a harmless drill, not real, right? Purely hypothetical, just like their drill.
I'd bet a million bucks that if we did so, even with just air-soft rifles in hand, we would be arrested for "disturbing the peace" or even "terrorism" because we "threatened the use of violence to influence the government's behavior."
THEY get to practice using violence against us. THEY get to threaten the use of violence to shape our behavior. THEY get to condition their underlings and our people for this.
But we can't do likewise.
This is getting ridiculous!
"They" are conducting training in disarming us, and conditioning NG troops to do to use exactly what is done to "civilians" in the combat zones of Iraq and Afghanistan, and we are supposed to just sit here, on our hands while they drill, train, and prepare to make war on us?
Fuck that.
Yep, what HPLawyer said.
ReplyDeleteIf they're looking for an "arms dealer", they should include training for when they find all the "arms users".
And I suppose loading blanks for the first five rounds would be sporting. After that, training time is over.
If this is true, then it is highly disturbing and ominous.
ReplyDeleteThe pieces of the puzzle are falling into place very quickly.
Reckon the "reply", if one is ever to be had, will start with a name such as "Quisling" or "Pétain".
ReplyDeleteBlindfolds and brick walls, anyone?

Neither Predator Nor Prey www.neitherpredatornorprey.com covers this exact topic. In Part 2,The governor of Wyoming is blackmailed into declaring martial law in Hot Springs County. I believe the scenario is plausible and it plays out in a humorous and interesting, if violent, manner.

ReplyDelete"Are there no militia or other groups in Iowa who would perform the type of resistance mentioned above?
A peaceful, yet strong message needs to be sent that the free men and women of this country will not tolerate this type of trampling on our rights!"
Yes, exactly. As angry as I am, he is right: a peaceful, yet powerful presence of gun owners would be the way to go - even if unarmed except for signs saying "we will not comply, we would rather fight and die" and "keep your oath!" and such.
It needs to be done. We still have the soap box. We should use it. No reason we couldn't stage at least a march on the first day of their training.
And it is in the month of APRIL too.
Seems fitting, frankly.
What better time to rally and let our Gladsden flags and our "III" flags "to April's breeze unfurl," in memory of those men who stood on an April morning so very long ago.
IF there is real support and interest in doing this, I will go and, if need be, lead the march (unless Mike V. wants to, which would be extremely cool!).
I'm willing to be point man, unless Mike, Pete, or someone from Iowa steps up (which would be far, far better).
We could do a reading of Emerson's immortal poem:
"Their flag to April's breeze unfurled, Here once the embattled farmers stood. And fired the shot heard round the world."
And readings from other founders, such as Patrick Henry, and the patron saint of all patriot lawyers, James Otis (I volunteer to play the role of Otis!).
Seriously, why not?
We need to start taking stands somewhere.

My letter to the Iowa National Guard. Don't be afraid to speak out.
ReplyDeleteHello,
I just read about your planned take over of America town in April. I must remind you that you the National Guard job is not to train the American free citizens to accept illegal use of American Armed Forces to do house to house searches. This sound like some NAZI came up with this plan. How dare you take a swore oath to the U.S. Constitution to protect and defend from foreign and DOMESTIC threats. Hello is anyone home. I suggest you cancel this exercise of a 4 day training course on how to be good Nazi's you instead have 4 days of training in the U.S. Constitution and your duty to protect the Constitution. It truly appears you are lacking in any knowledge of your swore oath. The Officer that came up with this illegal plan should be force to resign immediately.
Traitor is too good of word. No Nazi's in Iowa National Guard.

Cordon and knock...search (you will not be given any option to say no), seize or destroy, repeat as often as needed to ensure tyranny. All who refuse to comply will be arrested or worse.
ReplyDeleteThis is not a drill to train the NG for overseas work to apprehend a "gun dealer", it is a test to see what American CITIZENS will do when the stormtroopers come for the "gun nuts". Will your fellow citizens cooperate and turn YOU in, or will some passively or actively resist?
After the last few decades of media PROPAGANDA against all gun owners (arsenal, cache, assault weapons - bomb-making materials, etc), I know that the COWARDLY SHEEPLE always believe the LIES and will turn us in without question (we are the new Jews). Be ready - it is coming. Make your decision now.
1775 will come back.
ReplyDeleteYesterday I went to buy an ice-cream cone at Sam's Club which is located half a block from where a work.
ReplyDeleteWith my after-tax money, which had already been overtaxed by local, state and federal government, I bought the ice-cream and two more types of taxes showed up on the receipt, namely "Tax 1" and "Tax 2".
So you take your overtaxed salary and pay all kinds of taxes with it.
IT IS TIME FOR A REVOLUTION FOR UNFAIR TAXATION! MY BLOOD IS BOILING!
WARNING: THEY WILL HAVE TO TAKE MY GUNS AWAY FROM COLD, DEAD HANDS.
ReplyDeleteGIVE FREEDOM OR GIVE ME DEATH!
I wonder how much federal corpgov money it took to buy a town for a weekend? You know DOD is paying the city handsomely for the privilege of teaching its citizens a lesson in "official justice". When the trough is slopped with federal money, it seems the pigs just fall in line and trip over each other to get at it. Its the city officials and the state governor that deserve the tar and feathers for allowing this kind of thing.
ReplyDeleteThan again, maybe this is all just an exercise, maybe someone is just "testing the waters" to find out where the line is...

Guys, having been in both crappily underfunded National Guard battalions and the much better funded 101st AIrborne (two Iraq tours and served with Mike V's son until he split for Germany), let me throw a little reality in this.
ReplyDeleteWe're all pissed off because Obama is in the White House and we think the gun grabbers are going to take their chances. OK, I can accept that, and I also guarantee my contingency plans for that are deeper and uglier than yours.
That doesn't change the fact that a National Guard outfit with very little time and resources to train has to train to perform a difficult mission overseas. They won't have multiple trips to the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, their predeployment training wherever they stage through will probably suck, but that commander has to train his guys as best he can for the mission they will conduct overseas. That is true regardless of who is in the White House. If this story came out a year ago when Our Guy (not that he was very great on the RKBA specifically, Squish son of Squish), none of us would have cared. It would have been Good Training.
Let's back off on the paranoia in favor of some well-thought out intelligence gathering and counterintelligence operations.
Fuck me, some of you guys need a professional S-2 setup.
Pardon me for saying so, but you guys are acting like this is news. You need to study what happened in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina and you will find that this is not precedent setting. Legally armed citizens without any criminal record had their guns confiscated without cause and without compensation. I have heard first hand witnessed accounts that will chill your blood. Even the paper here in Houston had an article about a 70+ year old widow whose door was literally kicked in, she was thrown to the ground (witnessed by her daughter), and a .38 revolver was taken from her---leaving her defenseless to the neighborhood gangs roaming the streets. I don't know about your area but ammo and weapons are flying off the shelves here in Texas.
ReplyDeletePardon my saying so, but you guys act as if this is without precedent. You need to check out what happened in N.O. after Katrina. I heard first hand reports from witnesses that were hard to believe until I heard them from others also. Ordinary citizens without criminal records had their weapons confiscated without cause or compensation. Even the Houston Chronicle carried one incident of a 70+ yr old widow, who was defending herself alone at home in a rough neighborhood, and had her .38 pistol taken by the local law enforcement. Her daughter came by to check up on her and witnessed the local police storm the front door and throw her mother to the ground and forceably confiscate the pistol; she then took took her to the hospital for treatment. How about this: Local law abiding citizens being on their own property, bearing arms, and being shot at by the guard and other law enforcement? Didn't read about that, did you?
ReplyDeleteWhen in doubt, squeeze the trigger.
ReplyDeleteJesus fucking Christ, you people act as if this is a declaration of war against you. The reason people are getting so paranoid and terrified of private gun owners is because you rant and rave about everyone in the government being "Nazis" and actually threaten to KILL people at the slightest provocation! That's like holding a loaded gun to someone's head while saying "don't worry, I won't kill you".
ReplyDeleteIt's you NUTCASES that make the actual SANE members of the gun-owning community, like myself, look like militant thugs with shaved heads and swastikas tattooed on our foreheads!
But, of course, I'm seeing "comment moderation has been enabled" beneath this window I'm typing in, so knowing most "great freedom-loving American types" in this country, anyone who disagrees with you or sees things from a different perspective will likely never have their comments approved.
Anon --
ReplyDeleteIf you want to be a typical Fudd and suck the boot of those who would enslave all of us, such is your choice.
Just don't insist on inflicting your dementia and cowardice on others.
And yes, those who violate our basic human rights are risking their own skins.
You make the mistake of assuming I'm happy with the way things are running in the government today, which you're quite wrong about. I'm all for defending my rights, but what this blog is preaching is NOT self defense, it's premeditated murder.
ReplyDeleteWhen all this so-called "enslaving" ACTUALLY STARTS, then AND ONLY THEN will I be glad to grab my rifle and do something about it. But until that day, I'm not gonna go around threatening to kill people like every commentator on this blog is doing. THAT kind of thing is what causes catastrophes like Ruby Ridge and Waco where INNOCENT PEOPLE DIE NEEDLESSLY. That's not dementia or cowardice, you dipshit, it's common sense, something which the commentators on this blog very clearly seem to lack.
Anon:
ReplyDeleteDid you do anything back in the Ruby Ridge or the Waco days?
Shamefully, I did not. In fact, back then, I was on the other side.
Your premise is fatally flawed: Innocent people died at RR and Waco because agents of the state chose to commit murder, not because free men and women said, in very clear terms, "Back the eff off, or else".
