Well, that was refreshing.
An entire weekend unplugged, with no intarwebs lookin' at all.
Even more behind on email.
Apologies to those who have been waiting for a response. I'll be beavering away all day today.
In the interim, please take a look at the comments to this essay.
I'd like to hear more principled discussion on how the Republic 3.0 version should deal with predatory foreign regimes/ideologies.
The geographic and temporal chasms that North America enjoyed in the time of Washington's "entangling alliances" admonition no longer exist.
So how does one maintain domestic freedom w/o becoming intolerably vulnerable to the world's predators? I think the answer has a lot to do with the US military's long-standing ability to remain subordinate to civilian control, but I truly want to hear from folks on both the problem and the solution.
Forward.
That's great, glad you had some nice time, unplugged..... But, you know we worry when we don't hear from you for a while....... Did know if you were in room 101 with Wilson and Julia.

ReplyDeleteYou know what's been really hard to accept?
The possibility that there are so few freedom-minded folks that there is no need for overt repression.
Nice, eh?

That is exactly what has been eating at me for some time now.
This death by a thousand cuts is really hard to watch......and when I point out the problems from an historical perspective and speak of the likely outcome of our continued path to self destruction most people look at me like I have a screw loose.
When will the people awaken from their slumber? or perhaps I am a likely candidate for room 101???
Yes, a break from the electronic madness can do wonders. Remember, it's only a step or two away from the Boob Tube. :-)
ReplyDeleteAs to the number of freedom minded folks - that possibility has two sides. If those who would repress think that there are too few of us to worry about, then perhaps they'll leave us alone a bit longer - time to prep more and get others to do so.
As to the masses, I don't see much how it matters, as they'll go along either way.
We've reached most of those that we can wake up. Whether the rest are capable of being awoken is up to them (some are starting to wake up now as shown by the many new gun purchases and the Tea Party folks - even if they are not yet properly focused).
IOW, for me it changes little what I do, just how I view.
